Domesday Book mentions a church here, but the walls and roof of this building are 13thC and the windows and chancel screen (now at the west-end) are 15thC. The interior was remodelled in 1703 and its character today comes from that period. St Nicholas is a charming small church with much interest, including the fine Jacobean monument to Sir Richard Powlett, an early 18thC reredos now on the south wall, 2 hatchments and a Royal Arms of 1701 and 3 superimposed layers of wall paintings on the north wall.
