The Grosvenor Hotel is situated in the centre of Stockbridge High Street and is easily recognised by the front portico. Recently refurbished, the hotel is home to the famous Houghton Fishing Club.
Prettily set in trees, this early-12thC church probably originated as a chapel for Gains Castle, the Norman fortification within whose outer earthworks it is sited. A long narrow building of local stone, flint and brick, it consists only of nave, chancel and south porch, with 2 bells hung in small arches in the west gable. Interesting features inside include the triple chancel arch, a 13thC wall painting in the splay of a small Norman window in the chancel, the ancient south door and a curious 17thC alms box cut out of an oak post.
